Principal Karen Stonely and her featured project, Westport Pool House, was displayed at the high profile and inspiring SXSW Convention. A taped video at the innovative event was part of the Social Impact Pavillion. In addition to this, the project was included in the A'19 Convention later in June where 25,000 industry leaders were registered to attend. The "SAY IT LOUD" exhibit is an initiative of Beyond the Built Environment promoting the contributions of minorities in the disiplines of architecture and design.

SPAN enters Blank Space's international competiton, "Fairy Tales," with the title Wind and Reeds. The competition focused on "remind(ing) us that we belong in the global context." The 5th annual competition brought submissions from 65 countries, exploring current events through the creative process shown in beautifully crafted short stories and artwork.

SPAN's project, August Moon Little House is included in this collection, illustrating through photographs and plans, their thoughtful solution to topographical challenges and sustainable design.

SPAN is a gold winner in the inaugural American Architecture Prize for their Hyatt Times Square project, a 55 story, 540 room hotel which features a restaurant, Sky Bar54, spa, gym and meeting spaces. Princeton's SOA students enrolled in SPAN principal, Peter Pelsinski's ARC509 course in Spring 2016, presented their work later that year during OHNY Weekend. Five M.Arch students designed, developed, and fabricated a reconfigurable wall made of plywood. This media board allowed participants to view maps and guides while collecting data from a questionnaire completed with gifted engraved pencils.

In May 2014, SPAN contributed a room for the 42nd Annual Kips Bay Decorator Show House, helping to raise over $1 million for the Kips Bay Boys and Girls Club. The show house received twice as many visitors than the previous year and was prolifically published.

Gotham West, which began in 2010 and was completed in October 2013, houses a total of 1,258 rooms in four buildings. SPAN strategized custom pieces of furniture to become architecturally scaled to create zones of space. Pictured, an exterior pergola reaches down from the skylight and produces a hanging fretwork that segregates the gallery from the lounges and leads your eye up to patches of green from the upper gardens.

New American Luxury's latest issue features SPAN's office fitout at Baron & Baron and restaurant interiors at Souen.
This Landmarked loft building in the Flatiron district will be enlarged and converted into a boutique hotel and restaurant unter SPAN's direction. Work will include an extensive restoration to the building's historical facade.
SPAN will be coordinating and designing a conversion of this building into a boutique hotel in the Times Square area. Of note, the renovation undertakes a complex surgical structural agenda, a new roof deck, and a new facade.

SPAN begins work on the four building, 31 story rental buildings with Gotham Development Corporation
SPAN has begun design work on a gut renovation of a loft apartment with views towards the East and Hudson River with the award winning writer and journalist Campbell Brown.
SPAN is leading a feasibility study for a 20,000 sq. ft. tensile structure on Pier 54 for branded, mega-iconic, cultural and fashion events. The program will include an interior layout, landscaping, amenity spaces, a bar, restaurant and private lounge and end of pier terrace.
Work on site recommenced on the new 55 story hotel for Extell Development in the Times Square area. SPAN is the interior architect for the 540 room hotel which also includes a restaurant, Sky Bar with a roof top terrace, spa, gym and meeting spaces. The operator will be announced later in the year with completion anticipated in 2011.
The studios work is being featured this month in the article "Mover Shaker: The Impresario Imperative" in Interior Design Magazine.
SPAN begins design consultation on the Las Vegas Bally's Grand Bazaar Shops, an open air market located on the strip.
Site planning commenced for a new residence, ice house, sail loft, log canoe barn and shooting range at Long Point Farm in Rock Hall, MD.
The studio began design work on the conversion of an 8000 SF historic firehouse in Greenwich Village into a private residence. The project includes a gut renovation, bespoke furnishings, a new penthouse addition and two terraces.
SPAN is asked to design and construct an object "that could shelter any living creature (and fit into the back of a NYC cab)" for auction at the 2009 Annual Benefit and Auction. SPAN's interpretation, "Urban Camoflauge" is a conflation of the organic iconography of a bird nest with that of its built counterpart, the birdhouse.
Furthering our long-standing relationship, SPAN volunteered design services to the New York Council for the Humanities in thier recent office renovation. The opening of the new offices was marked by a cocktail reception on the evening of October 15th attended by State Senator Eric Schneiderman.
The firm celebrated construction completion of the Iron-Lofts (early summer) and the 100th birthday of the Landmarked building with a coctail reception in October. Iron lofts marks the rebirth of the formerly industrial building as six meticulously detailed luxury residences. A sensitive vertical addition completes the duplex penthouse, while a rear terrace (off ground floor bedrooms), custom steel stair railing and 14 foot ceilings highlight the ground floor “Maisonette”.

SPAN is currently working with macrobiotic authority Masaki Yamaguchi on an full remodel of Souen restaurant near Union Square.
SPAN has begun design work on a gut renovation of a duplex apartment overlooking Central Park. A central bespoke perforated stair core will unite the floors and modern antique and custom furnishings will play homage to the couples existing influential modern art collection.
SPAN completed the renovation of this South-Seaport restaurant. The urban cowgirl theme was transformed by it's new location, drawing its personality form both the Western Frontier and the Historic Seaport.
After successful completion of Hong Kong and Sanghai flagship stores, SPAN has been called on for comprehensive re-branding for the fashion house, Pringle of Scotland.
Adding to its development portfolio, the firm is working on the conversion of a 6,000 sq. ft. NYC Landmarked apartment building to a single-family residence. The design features a phenomenal glass stair that wraps the new stone elevator core, puncturing and pulling light through all floors.
SPAN begins design work on the apartment gut renovation for banker, Karim Tabet. An interior palette of white compliments the expansive Central Park views.
SPAN has been chosen to develop a proposal for a three story addition to an existing four story building on Lexington Avenue. The program comprises a ground floor retail space and three duplex apartment units, for a total of 6,293 sq. ft. of residential space and 490 sq.. ft. of commercial space. Design challenges include devising a foundation with footings that do not interfere with the existing Lexington Avenue subway lines and a new facade that evokes the surrounding context.
SPAN was asked to partner again with John Pawson to update 1825 Collins Avenue in Miami Beach, adding to Ian Schrager's established presence on the world-famous strip.
SPAN completes the first Collection Store for Calvin Klein's couture collection outside of NYC ahead of the anticipated schedule and under budget. Custom hang bars and vitrines are developed to compliment the stores iconic minimal detailing
SPAN began design on a 4,000 sq. ft. hyper modern extension to a historic Georgian style brick home on in Essex MA. The scope will also include new ancillary landscape structures; new stables, pool house, stone tower renovation, tennis facility, and extensive landscape design integration for the multi-acre property.
SPAN has been commissioned to design both landscape schematics, and a series of structures on pristine hunting grounds, originally belonging to actress Brooke Astor in Bar Harbor, ME.
The studio is working on a multi-faceted residential project which includes custom interiors, furniture design and extensive renovation at the existing residence. A 22 foor tall bespoke chandelier made from swarovski crystals will grace the new entry foyer. The exterior scope included a new pool house with outdoor living space, a reflecting pool and landscape design integration.

Grant Org. and Friends of Hudson Square is published along with articles "Up On The Roof" in the Architects Newspaper, November, and "Architects Brainstorm Ways to Add Park Space" in the Downtown Express, October. SPAN was chosen alongwith 5 other firms in the field of architecture , landscape and urban design to envision solutions to connect this super block site with the Hudson Waterfront, Pier 40 and the adjacent neighborhoods of the West Village, SoHo and TriBeCa.

The spa at The Core Club is on the cover of the summer edition of Benjamin Moore & Co.’s Ensemble Magazine. The article titled “a natural habitat” highlights several spas to exemplify how elements of nature influence colors and textures of spaces to provide comfort and sanctuary.
SPAN has been invited as one of five national firms to participate in the Friends of Hudson Square Design Charrette Workshop and Exhibition. The theme "envisioning a neighborhood" is part of an effort to "spur Master Planning activities through collaboration and conversations, rather than reacting to spot-zoning" in order to "produce a more sustainable, economically vibrant and livable community".

SPAN begins programming and design on the new 54 story hotel in Times Square for Extell Development Corporation. There will be a ground floor restaurant, 450 rooms, a meeting floor, Spa and private gym, and roof top bar lounge.
In celebration of their upcoming 30th anniversary, the influential and respected gallery space is expanding with the aid of design by SPAN. The design will feature new offices and a new stair.
Baron & Baron has selected the firm to renovate a new 12,000 SF studio space in keeping with his modern and refined design sensibilities. Design features include unobstructed panoramic views, custom furniture, and extensive custom fabricated millwork and steel work.

SPAN has been selected to convert a series of townhouses into luxury condominiums, the first of these properties located on West 74th Street NYC.
The condominiums will include custom millwork and flooring, spectacular interior stairs, modern baths, exterior garden and terraces and wine cellars alongside sensitive contextual restorative work.
SPAN has recently begun work in collaboration with John Pawson on the penthouse apartment at 40 Bond Street. The design features panoramic views of downtown New York, as well as state-of-the-art services.
The Spa at The Core Club opened end summer after construction and interiors were completed.
SPAN has completed noted dentist and author Dr. Jonathan Levine's dental suite, GOSmile Aesthetics, on the upper east side of Manhattan. The serene and sleek surgery and fabrication suite features custom cold formed millwork, display cases, lighting design and furnishings.
SPAN is beginning work on a new eight story, 12,000 sq. ft. mixed-use building in Chelsea near the Highline Park project at 436 West 18th Street. The building will serve as an urban model of sustainable and green technologies. Construction is slated to being January, 2007.
The design & interior furnishings of this 5,200 sq. ft. duplex loft in the Gramercy area was substantially completed in April, 2006. The architectural renovation entailed signifigant structural work to create two large double height atriums, a custom glass and metal winter garden, cantilevered stair and catwalks with stained and fritted glass inserts, the Dornbracht "RainSky" shower/spa system and integrated and automated lighting, HVAC, AV/IT and sound controls. Highlights of the interior decoration feature a custom leather wall panel/dresser, a walnut/chenille sofa, a parchment/lucite motorized bar cabinet.
SPAN is completing Calvin Klein's private 9,000 sq ft. residence located in the penthouse of the Richard Meier Perry Street towers (in partnership with John Pawson). Charaterized by simplicity and minimalism, the design unites a unique palate of materials with high precision craftsmanship, all fully integrated with state-of-the-art technological services and controls. Key features include a screening room, gym, 2 full kitchens, 2 working fireplaces, and a cantilevered solid stone stair.
SPAN received an AIA New York State Juror's Special Recognition Award for architectural excellence and the reinvention of teleconferencing ergonomics and technological integration in the "Keyspan Energy" project, completed in 2005. The advanced nationwide teleconferencing is being re-investigated and executed nationwide for McKesson Pharmaceuticals, a Fortune 50 Company, in collaboration with Panasonic.
Final touches proceed apace on the architecture and interior design of the Core Club, a 30,000 sq. ft. new concept private club. The club features a wide range of amenities including a full restaurant and bar by Tom Collechio (Gramercy Tavern and Craft), a gymnasium by Chris Imbo (Casa Spa), a 60 seat screening room, and a full-service spa. Architectural and interiors elements through out are predominantly signature pieces fabricated exclusively for the club and range from blown glass chandeliers, an antique glass/purple heart wood/zebra wood conference table, dye cut wood panels, custom metal and glass library shelving/brise soleil, and a double height wood and marble feature stair.
